The openness of the Windows platform played a big part in popularizing the operating system, and it appears that this will transition to the wearable technology that will carry the Microsoft logo.
Because, although the company has not confirmed it in official capacity, there have been numerous whispers that Redmond is working on wearables — from patents details to insider leaks and even hints from some Microsoft officials.
This story from Forbes cites unnamed sources, and claims that Microsoft’s smartwatch works with all major platforms and can continuously monitor heart rates .
Battery is one of the biggest hurdles here, with companies trying level best to improve usage time without the device needing to be recharged. And Microsoft’s smartwatch reportedly lasts two days , which is decent, if not spectacular.
No one likes to have to take off watches (smart or not) and wait for them to charge!
The aforementioned story rounds it up by claiming that the company has reached across its engineering team to tap into internal expertise, and optical engineers from Kinect division are working on the device.
Release date, however, still remains unknown. There are indications that it could debut as early as this summer , but of course, we have no confirmation.
However, making it compatible with any smartphone is the biggest advantage , and it remains to be seen whether competitors like Google or Apple go this route or not.
If not, then Microsoft could have a surefire win.
